Abstract:
While evidence-based medicine has been established as a high-quality approach towards clinical decision making for diagnostic, treatment and short-term prevention, the same cannot be said for long-term prevention and health maintenance. Yet, through novel wearable smart devices, the health market has surged in the recent years. From mindfulness to the 10.000 step challenge, many health recommendations are spread through social media and marketing channels. The evidence behind these advices is often unclear. This requires medical professionals to often make gut decisions, when faced with questions from their patients. In this presentation, we will take a look on current trends in (preventive) health research, why evidence is so difficult to generate and how the future of health care might evolve.
