Research
In addition to patient care, the center also provides the basis for promoting medical innovations and further developments in research, prevention, diagnostics, therapy and medical technology. It focuses on the interests and needs of patients and users. The diagnosis and multi-professional treatment of epilepsy is subject to rapid change. The close integration of all disciplines involved enables modern, indication-based procedures to be tested and established.
Research into epilepsy is a broad field, comparable to detective work. Sometimes it is also about finding out that someone does not suffer from epilepsy. After all, an estimated 100,000 patients in Germany are treated with medication for epilepsy even though they do not actually suffer from epilepsy. We want to change this with our research findings. This is another reason why the review of external treatment recommendations, so-called second opinions, is part of the Center's portfolio. Particularly close coordination is therefore necessary at the interfaces between the specialist disciplines, which is guaranteed by the Center in a special way.
Further information on the Center's research can be found on the pages of the Epileptology Section.
