On 12 December 2023, PhD student Eva Harlacher successfully defended her dissertation entitled "Increased cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease: Insight into mechanisms and mediators of kidney-heart crosstalk" at Maastricht University. She had passed an earlier final examination of her dissertation in the closed procedure at RWTH Aachen University with the distinction "magna cum laude". She is thus completing her doctoral thesis with the award of a double doctorate, which is awarded jointly by both universities. This eemphasizes the successful collaboration between RWTH Aachen University and Maastricht University concerning research as well as education in the field of cardiorenal syndrome. Eva was also a doctoral student in the SFB/TRR219 consortium.
