Career

We are always looking for high motivated students for experimental Bachelor and Master projects. Please contact sknarrenukaachende.

Doctoral thesis for Medical students: We are always looking for talents for different doctoral thesis projects. If you think that your profile fits to our team, do not hesitate to submit your application and CV to us (sknarrenukaachende).

The research group of Prof. Dr. Vera Jankowski at the Institute for Molecular Cardiovascular Research offers a Master project in an interdisciplinary translational project. This project is part of a collaborative consortium investigating "Mechanisms of cardiovascular complications in chronic kidney disease" (https://www.sfb-trr219.de/). We are looking for motivated candidates who share our interest in understanding molecular mechanisms. The group specializes in chromatographic methods for purification of patient samples and mass spectrometric analysis, as well as imaging mass spectrometry. With this expertise, the group supports most of the projects within this consortium, resulting in a broad range of responsibilities.

Topic of the Thesis

The project involves the visualization of various imaging methods in basic medical research. The focus here is the implementation and analysis of mass spectrometric data. For this project, an algorithm is to be further developed and adapted to maximize the flexibility of the data resources that can be used. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in informatics or bioinformatics or equivalent in simulation sciences, biomedical engineering, media informatics or closely related field. Background knowledge in the field of biology, medicine or health sciences would be preferable.

How to apply?

We look forward to receiving your application. These should include a curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation and copies of your references. Inclusion of letters of recommendation or suggested references is encouraged. Please send your applications to: jhermannukaachende or sknarrenukaachende.

Description

Vascular calcification and osteoporosis are both comorbidities of chronic kidney disease. Vascular calcification involves the pathological deposition of calcium in the blood vessel, leading to increased cardiovascular risk. Bone mineralization is a physiological process critical for maintaining bone strength and health. Both these processes are interconnected via mediators impactin calcification. Understanding this relationship is crucial for the ffective management and prevention of cardiovascular complications and osteoporosis.

Your tasks:

  • Cultivation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts in vitro
  • Characterizing the impact of the mediators of vascular calcification via calcification quantification, RT-PCR, Western Blot, Imaging, etc.
  • Studying molecular mechanisms of the identified mediators via kinase assay, flow cytometry and possibly sequencing

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic master student with a strong academic background in biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related field. You should have experience in the lab and cell culture and be fluent in English.

About us:

We are an international and interdisciplinary research Institute, where experts from different areas (molecular and cell biology, medical chemistry and medical care) work close together. The group specializes in identification and characterization of mediators of organ crosstalk. We offer training in application-orientated research with high clinical relevancy and sophisticated molecular & cellular biology and chemistry techniques, as well as a friendly working environment. Getting a job as a student assistant on a mini-job basis is possible parallel to the Master's thesis.
