ERS invites… Prof. Dr. Boris Martinac: 3.5 Billion Years of Mechanotransduction: In the Beginning was the Touch

Dear all

Thinking outside the box”, according to this motto Professor Rudolf Leube, Institute and Chair of Molecular and Cellular Anatomy, University Hospital RWTH Aachen and the Exploratory Research Space (ERS) of RWTH Aachen University invite you to another lecture of the ERS invites... series.

With this series, the ERS would like to bring top-class speakers to the University with cutting-edge topics and is particularly pleased that Professor Dr. Boris Martinac, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, will explain to us what role mechanical force plays in the everyday life of all living organisms - from bacteria to humans.

Mechanosensory transduction, is an exciting, growing field of research in biology and medicine, for which half of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded. It focuses on understanding how mechanical stimuli such as touch, pressure and vibration are converted into electrical signals by the nervous system, helping to uncover the fundamental mechanisms underlying how organisms perceive the physical environment.
