The pathophysiology of lipidic calcified particles
Crystals play an important role in vascular calcification. Calcium/phosphate crystals were shown to serve as progenitors for calcification in bone and are ubiquitously found in cardiovascular tissue of patients with different cardiovascular diseases (Bertazzo et al. 2013). Modified lipid particles drive atherogenesis in the vasculature (Anderson et al. 2017). Thus we aim to analyze the behavior of CPPs and LCPs in vascular calcification. In my project we study the formation and composition of calciprotein particles (CPPs) and lipidic calcified particles (LCPs) formed in vitro and in vivo and their calcification potential in cell culture.
