On March 21, 2022, IMCAR PhD student Shruti Bhargava successfully defended her dissertation entitled "Identification and characterization of mediators of the calcification paradox" at Maastricht University. She accomplished an earlier closed examination of her thesis at RWTH-Aachen with the distinction "summa cum laude". She thus completes her doctoral thesis with the award of a double doctoral degree jointly awarded by both universities.
Shruti was a PhD student in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Training Network INTRICARE (https://www.intricare.eu/). As such, she was embedded in a structured graduate training program on European level, closely guided by her promotors from both the RWTH Aachen and Maastricht University.
This successful cross-border cooperation in both research and education emphasizes the value of international training networks. In addition, it highlights the successful cooperation between the RWTH Aachen and Maastricht University in the field of the cardiorenal syndrome within the cross-border international institute ‘AMICARE’.
