On March 18, Ufuk Tan Timur, who was a shared PhD student between the Dept. of Anatomy and Cell Biology of the RWTH Aachen University and the Dept. of Orthopedic Surgery of the Maastricht University Medical Center+ (MUMC+) successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled “Micro-environmental and macro-environmental improvements of joint quality in knee joint pathologies” in Maastricht.

Orthopedic Surgery, MUMC+; left-to-right). Not pictured: promoter Professor Dr. Lodewijk van Rhijn from the same department.
Although some members of the examination committee still participated via Zoom, this was one of the first face-to-face promotions after a long COVID-19 period. Professors Sjoerd Bulstra (University Medical Center Groningen), Marcel Karperien (University of Twente), Poeze, and van Osch (Erasmus MC University Medical Center Rotterdam) of the assessment committee participated online.
