Student Research Assistant (w/m/d) for Differential Equations Modeling of Liver Lipid Metabolism

The position can start as soon as possible with flexible working hours. The initial appointment will be for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Bachelor or Master student to join our research team. The successful candidate will assist in developing and simulating computer models of the liver lipid metabolism. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in mathematical modeling and computational biology within a cutting-edge research environment focused on hepatology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement mathematical models using ordinary differential equations to simulate liver lipid metabolism.
  • Analyze the model dynamics using appropriate numerical methods and software tools.
  • Collaborate with the research team to integrate experimental data into the models and validate model predictions.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis and parameter estimation to refine model accuracy.
  • Document and report modeling methods, assumptions, and results clearly and accurately.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to ongoing research discussions.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mathematics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, knowledge in ordinary differential equations / dynamical systems is beneficial.
  • Experience with mathematical modeling software such as MATLAB, python or R.
  • Basic understanding of biological systems and liver lipid metabolism is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Prior experience with computational biology or biostatistics is a plus.
