Abstract:
We introduce Bézier curves and Bézier patches and show how they can be used in various applications ranging from medicine to earth sciences. We will also look at other curves that arise naturally in clas-sical differential and algebraic geometry and show how they can ap-plied to build orthogonal grids on certain types of regions. These grids are an important ingredient in the construction of models to simulate the contaminant transport in rivers and the study of longitudinal sec-tions of veins and arteries.
This talk is particularly addressing interested students from all faculties of RWTH Aachen University disregarding their actual program enrolled. It is given on an in-termediate level.
