AI engineer (m/f/d) in Image Analysis

Working hours: Full-time (38.5 hours/week) 
Time limit: 2 years with option of prolongation
Entry: as soon as possible
Remuneration: EG 13 (TV-L)

The position is embedded in CRC1382 (https://www.crc1382.org/), a DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre. CRC1382 research projects replace the traditional organ-centred view of the gut and liver with an integrated approach that considers the combined function of the gut and liver, their metabolic and immunological capacity, and their role in host-microbial interactions. More than 60 clinicians and basic scientists work together to comprehensively understand and model the gut-liver axis and to develop innovative diagnostic tools and interventional strategies to improve patient care. We are looking for an expert to strengthen the expertise in AI-based image analysis in CRC1382. Your tasks

As an AI Engineer in our CRC 1382, you will:

  • Apply and maintain existing AI models and optimise them for specific problems according to the requirements of the CRC1382 projects. You will be responsible for the end-to-end deployment of AI models, including data standardisation, model deployment on local server, design of simple and user-friendly graphical interface, model evaluation and testing, automation with CI/CD pipeline, data management. Conduct research on existing AI frameworks to adapt and optimise solutions for medical image analysis and multimodal data integration
  • Work with large and complex medical image datasets
  • Apply technical expertise in AI to strengthen CRC1382 projects. Provide support and consultancy of CRC1382 scientists and cooperative development of image analysis and data integration tools

Your profile  

  • A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science or related engineering degree with demonstrated experience in ML/AI
  • Solid knowledge of ML and AI fundamentals and applications, especially in computer vision
  • Strong technical hands-on experience in Python. Nice to have: experience of programming in R
  • Strong technical hands-on experience and solid knowledge of common ML/AI libraries such as pytorch, tensorflow, scikit-learn
  • Good practical experience of implementing graphical user interfaces
  • Knowledge of working with a Linux system, the concept of containerisation (docker, singularity, ...), github/gitlab
  • Good statistical skills and proven experience working with complex data
  • Good knowledge of English (level C2 or above)
  • Strong motivation, self-motivation and curiosity to learn
