Are you passionate about unravelling the mysteries of liver diseases? Join our team, which has over 20 years of experience in research of liver diseases.
Tasks
1. Investigating the Role of Patient-Derived Immune Cells in Alpha1-Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD)
Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disorder characterized by mutations in the alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) gene that predominantly affects lung and liver. Individuals with severe AATD mutations, such as the PiZZ genotype, face increased risks of liver cirrhosis and lung emphysema. Over the past 10 years, our group has collated a worldwide unique and well characterised human tissue samples. In your thesis, you will take advantage of these patient-derived cells to study how neutrophils contribute to AATD. The research will explore the impact of inflammation, immune cell activation, and their interactions with liver function. Advanced omics analyses and biochemical assays will be employed.
2. Investigating the Impact of HSP90 in Liver Disease
This project will examine the role of Heat Shock Protein 90 (HSP90) in liver health and will take advantage of a newly generated liver-specific HSP90 knockout animals. HSP90 is a molecular chaperone involved in maintaining protein homeostasis and cellular stress responses, particularly in tumor development. We will use biochemical assays, histological analyses, and molecular studies in animal models to uncover how HSP90 affects liver function.
