PhD Student (f/m/d) on “Tumor Biology of human Hepatocellular Carcinoma“
The part-time position 65% (25,025 hours/week) will start as soon as possible and is initially limited for 3 years with the possibility of prolongation.
In this project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research, we will identify key mechanisms of the transition from liver fibrosis/cirrhosis to Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC). The project is being carried out within the framework of a Germany-wide research consortium called “LiSym Cancer” (www.lisym-cancer.org). The overarching aim of the consortium is to develop a systems medicine-based algorithm to identify patients at high risk for HCC.
Your tasks
- Isolation of human liver cells and culture as 3D organoids
- Treatment of 3D organoids with different agents to analyze the effect on tumor cell survival
- Modulation of cells with CRISPR technology
- Functional testing of the interaction of tumor cells with immune cells and fibroblasts
- Scientific publication of the results
Your profile
- Master’s degree in either biology, biochemistry or comparable degrees in natural sciences
- A strong interest in hepatology, oncology and cell biology
- Very good English skills (in writing and speaking) LevelC1
- Enthusiasm to work in an international team with widespread collaborators
